Stories in the Dark

Dive inside the magical story tent and find out who stole the darkness, why the sun and the moon are high and dry in the sky and how three monkeys came to be in a canoe. Full of twinkling lights, vibrant colours and just a touch of darkness, the story tent provides the perfect for 2-5 year olds to explore the magic of the dark in a delightfully safe place. The story tent is one of the smallest theatres in the world! With only 15 people at any one time (including adults), young children will have the chance to join in with the story, to talk and to play. Each show lasts for 30 minutes, with time to explore the tent and its treasures afterwards.

Come and enjoy the shadows, the lights, the fun and of course the darkness

NEW! The Marvellous Journey

New for this year, a wheelchair-friendly version of Stories in the Dark perfect for special schools and people of all ages with a range of complex needs including autism.

The Marvellous Journey uses lights, colours and a whole range of multi-sensory props to introduce listeners to a sensory version of Coleridge’s poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

The children sit around a sparkling tent, which opens to reveal a ship sailing on the sea, and a whole range of sensory props for them to enjoy. During the show we explore different kinds of light, sound, smells and textures, and all the rich emotions of the poem. It opens up new imaginative worlds to the participants and encourages them to communicate and join in with the story, and to journey through its magical landscapes before getting back safely home.
